Obituary for Terrence T. "Terry" Desmond

Terry Desmond, 79, of Lake Forest, IL, passed away on October 6, 2023. Born on May 18, 1944, in Chicago, IL, Terry lived a life dedicated to service and community.

Terry began his career as a much-loved middle school teacher in Sycamore, IL. He then served three terms as the County Clerk and Recorder in DeKalb County, IL. Later, he worked as the Senior Vice President of Governmental Business Systems, Inc. and served as the Executive Director of the Illinois Association of County Officials and as an Elections Consultant.

Terry was a dedicated Rotarian for over 50 years, living by the motto of "Service above Self." He hosted many Rotary Exchange students in his home and received numerous awards for his public service and leadership.  Terry had a lifelong dedication to the Catholic Church in addition to being a Eucharist minister and a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus.  He was proud to have earned his Eagle Scout Award and enjoyed fishing in his free time. 

Terry is survived by his beloved wife JoAnn Desmond nee LoGiudice; daughters Tracy (Michael) Lehrmann and Courtney (Brian Keuer) Desmond; grandchildren Gianna Keuer, Mariella Lehrmann, and James Lehrmann; brothers Lawrence Desmond, Michael (Mary) Desmond, and Dennis (the late Cis) Desmond; and sister Christine (William) Brady. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Eileen (McNerney) Desmond and his brother Walter Desmond. Terry also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews, loving in-laws, and dear friends.

A celebration of life mass will be held at St. Patrick's Church, 928 W. Everett Rd, in Lake Forest on Saturday, October 21st at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation in Terry’s memory to Hope's In would be greatly appreciated. Terry Desmond will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His dedication to service, his love for his family, and his commitment to his community will leave a lasting impact on those
