Air Force Veteran Joseph Martin Portenlanger "not your average Joe", age 83, died Thursday, August 17, 2023 at his residence. Devoted son of Joseph and Cora Portenlanger. He was born November 1, 1939 in Chicago. Beloved husband of Joanna for 59 years. Loving father of Daniel (Laura Sweetow) and family -- Marina Stanaszek mother of grandchildren Eric and Renee, Joseph (Megan) and grandchildren -- Joey and Alden, Jason (Nicole) and grandchildren -- Hailey, Thomas and Megan. Beloved brother of Stephan (Susan), the late George (Betty), John (the late Joann), Rita (Abdul), Qaiyum, Mary Coriglione (the late Dennis), Hai and Ingrid Motiwalla and many nieces and nephews. Active member of Queen of Peace Parish including Eucharistic Adoration Committee, usher and Corpus Christie Committee. 

Visitation will be held September 9, 2023 at Queen of Peace Church (St. Eugene) at 10:00 am until time of memorial Mass at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemeterty in Des Plaines. For more information please call 708-456-8300
