Obituary for Joseph F. Henmueller

Joseph F. Henmueller passed away peacefully on June 6, 2022, at age 88, surrounded by the deep and abiding love of his family. Joe was born on June 15, 1933 and remained a lifelong native son of Chicago, Illinois. He was an accomplished financial executive for numerous decades, inspiring countless young bankers with his sharp intellect and keen acumen. Joe was a proud Korean War Veteran and a past Commander of the Korean War Veteran’s Association, Illinois Chapter. Joe was also an accomplished accordionist, teaching scores of students while he was still a young lad. Many a new bride in the Henmueller clan can attest to holding on tightly while Joe happily whirled them across the dance floor to a wild, spinning polka, their feet barely touching the floor.

Above all, Joe was the loving patriarch of the extensive Henmueller family. He was the beloved husband of the true love of his life, Grace M. (nee Slominski) Henmueller for over 66 joy-filled years. Joe was the revered father of Joseph M. (Pauline); John M. (Sandra); Mary L. (Robert Waddick); Mark S. (Kathy); James G. (Karen); Steven F. (Kristen); and Paul A. (Lori). Dear grandfather of Ian (Amy), Jennifer, Kristin (Dale), Danielle, Michael (Alivea), Kevin (Kristy), Kyle; Kimberly (Brandon), Katherine, Laura, Jessica, Mark, Megan (Branden), Matthew, Benjamin, Nolan and Ethan. Delighted great-grandfather of Aubrey, Jaxon, Grace, Mackenzie and Michael. Joe was the loving and devoted son of the late Joseph A. and the late Anna M. (nee Schoenecker) Henmueller. He was the fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.

As was evident to all, Joe’s wife and family were his true pride and joy. As an only child, he delighted in the large, loving family he created with Grace in more than six decades they shared together. Fishing trips, rowdy get-togethers and the simple joys of each and every family celebration only made his smile grow wider and brighter. As a testament to the generosity of his spirit, his friendships have been numerous and lasting. Joe’s dedicated service to his country, his profound love of his family and his sheer love of life is a blessing and legacy to all who have been graced by his presence. He was fond of saying that the beginning and ending dates on a person’s memorial were but dates- the important information was hidden in the dash between the dates: how well a person spent his life in between. Without question, Joe’s life was rich and full in every way that mattered. He is loved and his spirit endures.
