Obituary for Joseph Cortese

Joseph Cortese was born on March 5, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Antonio and Rose (Ursetta) Cortese where he was the youngest of four boys. He died Friday, February 17, 2023 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Il.
Joe was a graduate of Loyola University where he received his Bachelor Degree in Psychology. He was a social worker after college and most recently a substitute high school teacher. Joe loved current events, telling jokes and stories with his family and playing word games especially Scrabble. He enjoyed organizing as well as competing in Scrabble tournaments.
Joe is survived by his nieces and nephews, Frank (Eileen) Cortese, Jim (Patrice) Cortese, Lisa (Dennis) Vath, Steve (Terri) Cortese, Linda (Henry) Kaczmarczyk and Michael Cortese. Dear Brother in law of June Cortese. He was “GREAT” Uncle Joe to Kristen, Ryan (Amanda), Danny Cortese, Michael (Steph), David, Melissa, MaryAnn Cortese, Eric, Andrew Vath, Matthew, Amanda, Megan, Tommy, Nick Cortese, Brian (Katie), Dylan (Gabby), Michelle (Frankie) Kaczmarczyk. “GREAT- GREAT” Uncle Joe to Leah, Ethan & Max Cortese. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brothers Frank (late Evelyn), Sam and Jack Cortese.

Visitation Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 West Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. We will then proceed to St. Eugene Church 7958 W. Foster Ave., Chicago for Mass at 11:00 a.m., and the interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
