James M. "Jim" Steele, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home on March 9, 2021. Jim was the beloved husband of the late Anita, nee Watkins, for 48 wonderful years; loving father of Patricia Hansen, Michael and Catherine (Julie King) Steele and Margaret (Randall) Frederick; dearest son of the late Constance and James Steele; cherished grandfather of Michael Steele, James (Colleen) Hansen, Rachel Steele, Joshua and Melissa Nacheman and Anita Frederick and great grandfather of Abi, Liz and Drew. Funeral Saturday, March 13, 2021, friends and family are asked to meet at St. Eugene Church 7958 W. Foster Ave., Chicago, IL at 11:45 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial at 12:00 noon. The mass will be livestreamed at https://youtu.be/R8iR2xTcdko Attendees will need to register and be seated in church prior to the beginning of mass and the church is limited to 100 guests. The interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL. Prior to retirement, Jim worked for the Chicago and North Western Railroad for over forty years, last serving as a corporate Vice President. Coming from humble beginnings on the west side of Chicago during the depression, St. Malachy was a lifeline for James and his single mother, providing food and clothing when they otherwise would have none. Today, St. Malachy continues to provide for those in need though daily soup kitchens, food pantries, clothing drives, assistance for single moms and helping other families in need.
