James J Holbrook Jr, age 81, husband to Sheila (Sullivan), father to Joy Marie. son of James J and Dorothy (Haske) Holbrook; Brother to (Reverend) William Holbrook, Patty Holbrook, Marge Holbrook, the late Richard Holbrook, Maureen Holbrook Werner, Sharon Holbrook, Robert (Patti Palombi) Holbrook, Matthew (Cathy Barry) Holbrook. Uncle to: Michele Werner, Elizabeth (Carl) Johanson, James Holbrook, Margaret Holbrook, Patrick Holbrook, Sean Holbrook; great-uncle to Lilliana Capron and Lucy Capron; loved by his many Holbrook and Haske cousins.
Jim was a life-long resident of the far northwest side (Portage Park and Montclare); a graduate of Saint Pascal School, Saint Patrick High School, Saint Mary’s College (Winona, MN). Jim was a longtime member of Old St. Patrick’s Church and was a devoted volunteer to many organizations; Greater Chicago Food Depository (organized monthly volunteer group 17+ years), under his leadership, Old St. Patrick’s Church received the Distinguished Volunteer Group recognition in 2006, Harmony, Hope and Healing music therapy program (led monthly hospitality for HHH choir 10+ years), received the Heart of Harmony Hope and Healing Award in 2015 with his wife Sheila, St. Martin dePorres House of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter, various alumni advancement committees and activities.
Funeral Saturday, January 20, 2024, family and friends are asked to meet at Old St. Patrick’s Church at 700 West Adams Street in Chicago ( Parking https://www.oldstpats.org/parking.html ). Jim will be lying in state from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
