Obituary for Ida DiBenedetto (Fiadino)

Ida DiBenedetto, nee Fiadino, age 92. Born in Capracatto Italy on May 8, 1931, Ida passed away unexpectedly in Castel Di Sangro, Italy on February 3, 2024. Ida was the beloved wife of the late Giuseppe DiBenedetto; loving mother of Frank and Adele DiBenedetto, Antonella (Giuseppe) Caragiulo and the late Felicia (the late James) Auslander; dearest daughter of the late Adelina DiTanna and Filipo Fiadino; cherished grandmother of Lisa (Johnathan) Meyers, Josie Cecchin, Christina Ida Cecchin, Valerie Cecchin,  Alessandra and Piera Iacobuçci (Francesco) Joseph and Lena DiBenedetto, Franco Caragiulo (Sydney) Maria Caragiulo Shawler (Justin); great grandmother of Lisa Ida Paname, Mia and Camille, James Meyers, Lorenzo and Clifford.  Dear sister of the late Giacinta Santucci; fond aunt and cousin to many.

Ida and Giuseppe immigrated to Harwood Heights, Il. In 1970 to work and create a better life for her family.  She was able to achieve her success through sheer determination and will power after being widowed shortly after arriving in America. She worked in factories, restaurants,  cleaning offices and babysitting sometimes holding 2 or 3 jobs at a time. She loved shopping, Uomini and Donne, Taco Bell, margaritas, slot machines and the Lawerence Welk show. Most of all she loved her family and cooking home made pasta and gravy with her special way of adding " just a little more" ingredients to complete the meal. After dinner she would enjoy a game of scopa with her innocent remark" I confuse Nonna" when she won all the points.  Finishing the meal with an expresso she always had a story to share about her beloved husband and home in Pizzone.

She was adopted by many as their Nonna due to her beautiful, kind, caring nature. It also may have something to do with her feeding everyone her great bowl of pasta. Her smile radiated pure love. She had a great sense of humor.  She will be missed by all.
