Obituary for Edward J. Gorny

Dr. Edward J. Gorny, age 93, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on March 10, 2023. Edward was the beloved husband of Constance M., (nee Troutman), for 27 amazingly wonderful years; loving (Step) father of Joseph J. (Cassandra) Glinka and Christine M. (Robert) Moore; dearest son of the late Julia and Benjamin; cherished grandfather of Robert A. and Christian R. Moore; dear brother of the late Phyllis (the late Richard M.D.) Kloecker, and brother in law of the late Carol (the late Mel) Erickson, the late Patrick (Rosemary) and the late Colleen Troutman. Edward was a loving uncle to Julienne (Glenn) Abell, Suzanne (John) O'Donnell, Richard (Michelle) and the late Charles Kloecker; cherished great uncle to John O'Donnell, Jr., Katie (Jesse) Allen, Edward (Emily) O'Donnell, Jessica (Bradley) Koester, Ben Abell, R.J. and Sophia Kloecker; loving great great uncle of Johnny III, Maggie and Evelyn O'Donnell, Rowan and Trevor Koester. He was a special uncle to Julie (Tony) Almadovar, Shannon (Marcy) Erickson and many others.
Edward was a graduate of Loyola High School, Loyola University and a 1954 Alumnus of Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force functioning as head of European OBGYN in Chateau de la Rue, France.

Dr. Gorny was on staff at Resurrection Hospital for 53 years serving as Medical Staff President from 1984-1985. He was also on staff at Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines, IL, and delivered the second baby to be born there. He was a Fellow of American College of Surgeons and a Fellow the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He delivered 8,583 babies at Resurrection Hospital and over 10,000 in the course of his career. it was an honor for him to be chosen as a guest on the Oprah Winfrey show to deliver a baby for a rare and unprecedented episode.
Edward lived a faith filled life, and he leaves a legacy of unselfish devotion to his family, friends and patients. He will be missed by all. He was an adventurous and worldly gentleman with stories and experiences that captivated all of us. His love and grace will live in our hearts for eternity,
Visitation Sunday, March 19, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL.

Family and friends are asked to meet on Monday at St. Norbert Church in Northbrook. Visitation will be held there from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass 11:00 a.m. the visitation and mass at St. Norbert Church will be livestreamed (https://youtube.com/live/YqsufWouoXM?feature=share ), and the entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum in Des Plaines.
