Obituary for Dorothy J. Hoffner
Dorothy June Hoffner, just months short of her 105th birthday, died peacefully on Monday, October 9, 2023 at her home at Brookdale Senior Living, in Chicago where she lived independently. Just one week before her death Dorothy completed her second sky dive, a feat which has been submitted for certification to the Guiness Book of World Records as oldest person in the world to tandem sky dive.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Dessie H. Romey, aunt Ida Romey Fischer, and longtime friend, Mary Cerone.
She is survived by cousins Cheryl Smith (Rex), Ashland, OH, Christy Dachelet (Robert), Wayzata, MN, Charlene Holler (Michael), Onalaska, WI, and Charles Zirbel (Nancy), DeLand, FL.
For nearly 50 years, Dorothy worked for Illinois Bell training management personnel. She enjoyed time with friends, reading, opera, travel and vintage television programs. She was an avid, life-long Cubs fan.
She will be missed by good friend and sky diving buddy, Joe Conant, and her dining companions at Brookdale Senior Living.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 6th, 2023 at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence, Norridge IL. Visitation at 10 AM, service at 10:30 with luncheon following at Brookdale Senior Living. She will be interred at Acacia Park Cemetery in Norridge, IL.
