Obituary for Chester B. Howaniec

Chester B. Howaniec, age 99, U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, 249th Division, 88th Infantry, Company F "Blue Devils", passed away peacefully at his home on March 6, 2021, with his loving family by his side. Chester was the beloved husband of Mary Frances, nee Kaplan, for 74 wonderful years; loving father of Diana (the late Daniel) Conrad, Carol Day, Mary (the late James) Schiffer and Chester (Elizabeth) Howaniec; dearest son of the late Antionette and John Howaniec; cherished grandfather of Cristen (Joseph) Sprenger, Daniel and Jeffrey (Alexis) Conrad, Jonathan Day, Jacqueline Schiffer, Julie (Mo) Day-Namik, James (Kathleen) Schiffer, Jr., Chloe Howaniec, Mary Kathryn Schiffer and Andrew Joseph Chester John Howaniec; great grandfather of Timothy, Emersyn, Elliot, Parker, Henry and Isla; dear brother of the late Catherine Mix, Mary Wotowic, Walter and John Howaniec and Jane Kedzierski; fond uncle of many. Chester was employed with the U.S.P.S. for over 40 years. Visitation Thursday, March 11, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, at the funeral home, and will then proceed to Our Lady, Mother of the Church for Mass at 10:30 a.m. The interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL. Due to the current health guidelines, we are limited to 50 attendees at a time. We kindly ask that you quickly exit the funeral home after paying your respects to the family so that all visitors have an opportunity to enter. Please wear masks and practice proper social distancing. Until further notice, the coffee room is not available for use. Please refrain from bringing food or beverage into the funeral home.
