Obituary for Charles H Scherer

On Monday, November 21st, Charles Scherer, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones and joined his beloved wife Rosemary who passed away on October 30, 2019, at precisely the same time of the day, 8:32pm CST.
Born in Chicago on October 29,1932 to Charles and Catherine, Charlie, as he was known to family and friends, graduated from Saint Michael Central High School and then proudly served his country in the Korean War. Private First Class, Charles Scherer served honorably for three years.
On October 15,1960 Charlie married his beloved Rosemary. The two had three daughters Paula Hagstrom, Donna (Aldo) Gandia, and Linda (Bill) Donoulis; grandfather of Bobby (Mari) Callahan, Lauren (Bill Olsen) Fohlmeister, Jonathan Fohlmeister, Katelyn (Diego Del Rio) Berberet, and Kayla (Brian Mika) Gandia; and great grandfather of Mya Fohlmeister, Bodee Callahan, Raxxton Fohlmeister, Connor Callahan, and Jaxon Mika.
Charlie graduated from DeVry Technical University and successfully applied his knowledge at Protectoseal, Stewart-Warner and Acra Electric where he retired as a Manufacturing Engineer and Plant Manager in 1998. For decades, Charlie and his family lived on Chicago’s northwest side where they were pillars of the community. Charlie served as an usher at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Parish for more than 30 years.
Charlie was the most loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be forever missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 25, 2022 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave Norridge, IL 60706. Family and friends will meet Saturday at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church for Mass at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at St. Joseph cemetery. For more info please call 708-456-8300.
