Obituary for Brian Patrick Masterson

Brian Patrick Masterson of Park Ridge, Illinois, devoted and loving husband to Janet (nee Monnin) and adoring father to Nora and Aidan, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2024, at the tender age of 51.  Brian was surrounded by his family and will always be remembered as a loving, caring man who had a gift for making everyone feel special.  His quick wit, talent for funny jokes and stories, and affable personality could make anyone feel comfortable and included. Brian was truly a devoted servant of God whose life was a testament to his unwavering faith and commitment to Christ. He lived a life guided by the principles of his Catholic faith and found solace and strength in prayer, often starting his days with morning mass. Brian’s devout spirit touched the lives of all, friend or stranger, fearlessly and fiercely evangelizing the Word of God.  While overwhelmed with grief, we are comforted in knowing there is no doubt in our hearts Brian will be welcomed to Heaven with the words ‘Well done, good and faithful servant…come and share your master’s happiness.'

Along with Brian’s strong commitment to family and faith, Brian was a true patriot who proudly served his country as an officer in the United States Air Force.  In all his professional endeavors, he worked with an uncommon entrepreneurial energy that saw every opportunity as a possibility for keeping his family safe, supported, and at home. Brian’s inquisitive nature and love of learning meant he was rarely without a book in his hand, seminar to attend, or meeting on the calendar.  The arts, particularly music, were a staple of Brian’s life and central to his well-being, right up to his last hours. Of the many gifts Brian leaves his children, the appetite to learn and grow intellectually and emotionally may be one of the greatest.

Brian was born on September 29, 1972, to Nora (nee Halloran) and (the late) Hugh Masterson and was the dear brother of Hugh (Susan) Masterson, the late Noreen (Mike) Nolan, Mary (Edward) Niewinski, Joseph (Dottie) Masterson, Theresa (Stuart) Harris, Martin (Kelly) Masterson, and Margaret (Wes) Kinel; his parents in-law; Marilyn and (the late) Kenneth Monnin; Janet's siblings Jeanne (Mike) Jarvis, David (Mary) Monnin, Douglas (Susan) Monnin, Daniel Monnin, Dale (Rubi) Monnin, Dean (Malissa) Monnin, Julie, Jodie (Dave) Chapman, Janelle (Todd) Ruhe, and Jennifer Kocher. He was a cherished uncle to 37 nephews and nieces, and a role model to 5 Godchildren.
