Obituary for August R. Locallo

August R. Locallo age 98, fondly known as Gus, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2023 in the comfort of his home.  Gus was the beloved husband for 53 years of the late Anna Mae, nee Kelly; loving father of August Locallo (Deanne Stoery), the Hon. Daniel M. Locallo Ret. (Jean), Mary Kay (Carl) Reichenbach and the late Victor Locallo; dearest son of the late Victoria and Frank Locallo;  dear brother of the late Victor, Sam, and Joseph. Cherished grandfather of Mark, Eric, and Lindsay Locallo, Lauren (Chris) Stump, Kevin (Kate) Locallo, and Chase Reichenbach. Great grandfather of Colin, Vince, Amber, Lily, Gavin,Keegan, Dylan, Logan, Felicia and Liam.  Great great grandfather of Arrow;  loving uncle to many and caring father-in-law to Karen Locallo.

Gus joined the Chicago Police Department in 1952 and worked his way up the ranks from police officer to Captain/Commander.  He worked in various units within the department such as beat cop, traffic division, burglary, robbery, and violent crimes.  He was well known for his hard work and keen intuition.  Gus retired from the Police Department in 1988 as a Captain and went on to work as the Chief of Traffic downtown Chicago for the Cook County Sheriff's Office.  Throughout his career he held many security jobs in addition to his police job.  His work ethic was nothing short of amazing.

Gus was not only a mentor to many but the man everyone went to for advice and help.  His dedication to his family and his friends was his top priority.  There wasn’t anything Gus couldn’t build, fix, or improve.  He was known for his infectious smile, larger than life laugh, best pancakes on the planet, and his mad card playing skills.  Gus continued to make friends  during his time in both Arizona and Georgia.  He had new life experiences well into his 90’s and was loved by so many.
